These Kala Cotton napkins are handcrafted on hand-operated wooden looms, one of the oldest methods of textile production in India. The looms require no electricity or punch cards to guide the design, only skill, techinique and vision of the weavers. The yarn is made from heirloom organic cotton grown in Gujarat, India. The crop is purely rain fed so unlike large scale industrialized cotton production, it doesn't require vast amounts of water to grow.  It is also organic since it needs no pesticides and has high tolerance to diseases and pests.
By choosing this handmade piece, you help preserve craftsmanship and support rural artisan communities.
Care: Hand wash using mild detergent recommended. Entirely a hand-crafted piece; slight irregularities are to be expected and celebrated.

Soil to Studio uses time-honored techniques like handloom weaving, block-printing, natural dyeing, and hand embroidering to slow make table linens, pillows, wall art, rugs, and scarves in intentional, small batches. Each piece is made by artisans in rural villages and communities in India from natural fibers like wool, organic cotton, Indian linen, and silk. Founder Swati Bansal was born and raised in the small town of Udaipur in Rajasthan, India, where her upbringing fostered a strong appreciation for slow made textiles and handmade techniques. Soil to Studio’s mission is to empower artisans and their families, preserve local craftsmanship techniques, and to create sustainable livelihoods for their artisans. Soil to Studio follows fair trade practices and asks artisans to set their own prices for the pieces they make. Soil to Studio is also committed to sustainability by using low energy manufacturing techniques, utilizing solar power, rainwater collection and the reuse of post-production scraps. In 1929 at the Salon D'autumne in Paris, Le Corbusier and his team of designers presented a revolutionary collection of furniture that stunned the city. Among the pieces was the ethereal yet bold LC6 Table (1928), a mathematically refined structure of steel and glass that has become one of the most important International Style tables of the 20th century. Made of aeronautical steel, the base is welded for a seamless finish with sculpted angles and smooth, mitered corners.
The table top is a 19mm-thick rectangle of tempered glass, making the LC6 equally right as a dining table or in the conference room. Together the elements create a sense of line, scale and proportion unsurpassed by other designs.

Swiss-born Charles-douard Jeanneret, best known by his adopted name Le Corbusier, was a highly influential architect, designer, painter, urban planner and writer whose career spanned almost five decades. A pioneer of progress-minded modern architecture, Le Corbusier sought to impose a rational order on the chaos of the world through design. He rejected the excessive architectural ornament and developed a style that became known as Brutalism, creating buildings with elemental geometric forms that were made of industrial materials such as steel and reinforced concrete. Le Corbusier believed that pure, well-designed spaces could offer a lesson in how little is needed to achieve happiness. To convey this notion, the architect prioritized modern, open interiors and emphasized light, rational designs. His architecture and interiors share a clear sense of space and structural order, underlining the beauty in harmony, proportion and simplicity.
Le Corbusier"s furniture espouses these same ideals. His designs are spare, minimal and efficient but at the same time offer supreme comfort. Collaborating with his cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, and designer Charlotte Perriand, he devised such iconic pieces as the LC2 Le Grand Confort armchair and the LC4 chaise longue. Each couples a tubular chrome frame with soft, supple leather upholstery, lending an organic warmth to an industrially made design. In his furniture, Le Corbusier broke new ground in ergonomics. The shape of the LC4 chaise is taken directly from the human form; the classic cowhide upholstery makes the sitter feel weightless; and the piece features an adjustable positioning mechanism to promote total relaxation.
Such planning and intelligence were the hallmarks of Le Corbusier"s career. Whether in his designs for private residences such as the Villa Savoye near Paris, apartment towers like the Unit D'habitation in Marseilles, or in his furniture, he worked toward a style of living that was expansive and flexible. The strength and simplicity of line of Le Corbusier"s seating pieces give them a sculptural presence in any dcor, yet they are sublimely restful. And as you will see from the offerings on these pages, Le Corbusier"s furniture reflects a worldly taste: it is at once refined, cosmopolitan and chic.
