The Modern Line sofa collection was designed in 1949 by Greta M. Grossman. Modern Line was one of her most elegant and minimalistic designs and was praised in particular for being representative of her background in Scandinavian design. Her timeless sofa collection has a sleek, feminine and light expression that is supported with elegant slender legs, which is a true signature for Greta M. Grossman’s designs. In Grossman’s own words, the sofa was “developed out of our own preferences for living in a modern way.” Modern Line was also at the forefront of championing Nozag springs, new materials, and technology. The sofa was one of the first to use industrialized technology for upholstery of sofas. Grossman was highly influenced by European Modernism, which had been imported to the US by influential architects, such as Walter Gropius (founder of the Bauhaus) and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Grossman, in turn, played a significant role in defining the aesthetic of mid-century Californian Modernism.

Nousaku is based in the Japanese city of Takaoka, which has been a center for metalsmithing since the 17th century. Like all of the family-owned company’s products, this incense holder began with the creation of a custom sand mold. The cast brass forms were then refined and hand-finished using bladed tools. In addition to a spherical ball holder for stick incense, it includes a petite platform for cone incense.

Joy Tip This holder was designed for use with traditional Japanese incense sticks, which are usually 2.75" long. Longer incense sticks may not be fully supported. Marie starts her day by burning incense to clear the air and start fresh.

When Alvar Aalto designed the A110 pendant in 1952, it was nicknamed the Hand Grenade Light because it resembles the German grenades of the war. It was originally designed for the Finnish Engineers Association and the Council Chamber of Saynatsalo Town Hall. The design acts as a spotlight for direct illumination, with a bit of indirect lit being emitted from the top of the shade. It is available in white or black lacquered aluminum with a removable white, black or polished brass ring. It comes with a color coordinated canopy and cord to match the pendant finish. The 8.2 feet of cord can be cut in the field for the desired length.

Ace is constructed from molded plywood, covered with molded foam for the highest possible comfort. The back is flexible, which gives it a springy feeling, ensuring great sitting comfort. In order to reach the goal of this ambitious project, Normann Copenhagen has specially developed production tools, brackets, screws, legs and fabrics.
Ace combines intelligent engineering with an elegant visual impression. The lounge chair is upholstered in the front, rear and underneath, with refined piping around the seat and back. The inviting volume of the upholstery is accentuated by the round and soft design. A high, backward sloping back and angled legs give the chair a nonchalant expression. In a delicate proportional balance between weight and lightness, Ace compellingly conquers a room with its relaxed, yet stylish, attitude.
Ace is delivered in two attractive fabrics, a vibrant velour and a flecked wool textile, as well as soft, exclusive leather. The woolen textile, “Nist”, has been developed in-house by Normann Copenhagen to complete the characteristic visual style. Nist is manufactured using an nontraditional weaving technique and contains 52 percent linen, which produces an attractive natural flecking of the fabric. The velour brings Ace a seductive elegance, while Nist gives the chair a more stringent, masculine look.

Ace has legs in stained beech, in the same color tones as the fabrics for a uniform expression. The stain allows the wood’s natural flame patterns to shine through and adds a discrete play to the monochrome color universe consisting of five inviting shades.
